This award-winning tree was bred in France in 1978 by the INRA, an institute developed to promote sustainable agriculture. It fulfils many of their criteria: once established it is drought tolerant, it tolerates pollution, is an excellent pollinator and gives shelter and food to winter birds. A recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
- From March to April the tree is covered with a profusion of typically pretty apple blossom
- Autumn foliage is golden yellow
- Pot size: approx. 10–12L, Height and Spread: 7m (23ft) x 6m (20ft) after 10-20 years
- Well drained, fertile soil
- South or West facing
- Full sun, partial shade
- Hardy
Water well until established. Clear grass or weeds from around the base of young tree. Hard pruning is unnecessary, avoid cutting the tips of the branches, but remove dead, damaged or diseased branches and any water sprouts that appear.
