notes

Clematis Mary Whistler is notable for its simplicity and elegance. The spring flowering clematis produces an abundance of small white nodding flowers, made up of four tepals. These hang downwards and are very attractive to bees and butterflies as an early season nectar source. In autumn it bears attractive fluffy seedheads for extended interest.

Insights

Clematis need their roots to be cool and their heads in the sun, so plant with roots shaded by other plants. Use Clematis albina Mary Whistler to add height to the garden or to provide interest to a plain background, such as a fence or wall. The spring flowering clematis have a very fine root system so do not fare well in waterlogged ground, in fact, they thrive in poor soil conditions, if free draining. Do not over fertilise as this will encourage foliage growth, at the expense of flowers.
