notes

The young shoots of this evergreen shrub are a beguiling bright red and as they mature they change through bronze to glossy green. Colour is best when planted in full sun. If left unpruned, clusters of white flowers will appear in spring, sometimes followed by red fruit.

Insights

Photinia Red Robins are related to the malus family (apple trees). If left to flower they do go on to produce small berries that are appreciated by native birds such as thrushes. It is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.

Photonias respond well to pruning and are ideal for use as hedging or screening.
