For centuries Lavandula has been grown for its sweet aroma, picked just as the flowers come into bloom, they can be dried and used to flavour baking or sewn into muslin bags to scent clothes and the linen cupboard.

Plant in spring in well drained soil, with full sun. Cut back after flowering to prevent woody stems but avoid cutting into old wood.
