Features

notes

Forming a neatly rounded shrub covered in deep crimson flowers, David Austin’s Sir John Betjeman (Ausvivid) makes a bold statement in any border or formal rose bed, especially when placed in contrast with paler flower colours. Unusually for English roses, the deep colour actually intensifies as the flowers mature. Image courtesy of David Austin Roses.

Please note, our roses are available to purchase all year round, so depending on the time of year your rose may either arrive in bloom or have been pruned or deadheaded appropriately for the season.

Insights

Named after the well-known writer, journalist and broadcaster, Sir John Betjeman, who opened people’s eyes to the value of the buildings and landscape around them. At the time of his death in 1984, he held the post of Poet Laureate and is commemorated in Poets’ Corner in Westminster Abbey.
