notes

Rosa Comte de Champagne is a large shrub rose with broad and bushy foliage and a wonderful display of medium sized roses, which open yellow and mature to a rich apricot. The repeat flowering blooms are wonderfully open, revealing a mass of golden stamens which attract native pollinators, especially bees. Image courtesy of David Austin Roses.

Please note, our roses are available to purchase all year round, so depending on the time of year your rose may either arrive in bloom or have been pruned or deadheaded appropriately for the season.

Insights

This rose was bred by the renowned David Austin family in 2001 and named after Theobald I Navarre, Count of Champagne, who was famous for his poetry and for leading the Baron’s Crusade to the Holy Land in 1239. Theobald returned with a damascene rose in his helmet, then named Provins, but also known as the apothecary’s rose or rosa gallica, and it spread across Europe.
