Xocolatl “chock-oh-LAH-tul”. The original word for chocolate comes from the Nahuatl language spoken by Aztecs and Mayans who prepared xocolatl as a sugarless drink made of ground cacao, spices, water and cornmeal. “Xocol” means bitter and “atl” means water.
