Features

notes
Bearing pretty blue flowers in spring, Common Rosemary is a must-have herb for any kitchen garden. With upright, strong growth, its aromatic leaves are wonderful when used with roasted meats, bread, pasta and fish, and add a depth of flavour to stews.
Insights

Grown in peat free compost in a biodegradable pot made from waste coir and natural latex. Remove plant from pot or cut/tear away some of the coir if the plant is well rooted and hard to remove.

Details

Flowers: April - June

Planting
  • Moist, well-drained soil
  • South, West or East aspect
  • Full sun
  • Sheltered
Care
  • Pop the discarded coir pot in the green bin, leave out for birds to use for nesting, use as mulch or add to compost heap
  • Water regularly, especially in hot weather, but do not over water (it hates having wet feet)
  • Prune lightly in spring to prevent it from becoming leggy but don’t cut into dead wood
  • Move pots to warm, sheltered spot over winter
  • For culinary use- strip leaves from stems and chop finely (the soft new growth in summer has the best flavour)
  • Coir pots are supplied by one specific village producer in Sri Lanka. They have built a school, old people's home and extension to the local medical centre over the years from the proceeds of coir pot production
