David Austin’s Rosa Gentle Hermione® (Auscrowd) is a robust shrub with a large, rounded form. The blooms burst with petals in flat, shallow cups, and are attractive to pollinators. Its intense fragrance is of myrrh, reminiscent of sweet anise (the name for the scent myrrh comes from the Latin name for Sweet Cicely – Myrrhis odorata).

Insights
This rose was named after the virtuous and beautiful Hermione who was married to Leontes, the King of Sicily, in Shakespeare’s late, pastoral romance, 'The Winter’s Tale'. Hermione’s persuasive words at the beginning make Leontes suspicious and, following an unusual gap of 16 years, the complicated fallout from his misunderstanding is resolved.
