notes

Nepal has a long tradition of sustainable paper making using Lokta bark, which leaves the root system of the tree unaffected. This stylish white paper garland has been cut into an intricate geometric shape to string around the home, adding festive charm in a traditional paper chain, weightless and decorative. It has strings attached at each end for easy placement.

Insights

Handmade by artisans in Nepal from paper as a Fair Trade product. Paper chains or garlands have been used to decorate British homes since 1850s, a Victorian fashion likely appropriated from the Germans. Draped across the walls, they were fixed using drawing pins into the picture rails, at a height where any holes could not be seen.
