Hosta Francee, 2/3L
The beautifully heart shaped leaves of this small Hosta Francee end in a pronounced point and boast a deep olive-green colour with a neat white margin. This striking hosta (or plantain lily) is made even more appealing with the spikes of funnel shaped lavender blue flowers that emerge in summer, held on strong stems. Clump forming hostas are particularly good at introducing drama in a shady corner or as a specimen plant in a large container.

Hostas are native to the far east but were introduced to Europe in the 1800s and became instantly popular. They are spectacular when planted alongside other shade loving plants such as heuchera, dicentra or ferns. Hosta Francee is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
- Flowers: July - August
- Hardy
- Moist, well-drained soil
- North, east or west facing
- Partial shade
- Sheltered
- In slug prone areas, plant in a container raised on gravel and water, otherwise in a dappled border. Deadhead spent flowers and removed foliage as it dies back in the autumn.
- Shelter from cold winds. Water once or twice a week around the base of the plant, avoiding the leaves. Little and often is not helpful as it encourages the plant to produce roots closer to the surface searching for moisture.
