Gaura Ellura White
The delicate appearance of Gaura Lindheimeri Ellura White is misleading. It looks fragile with its starry clusters of blooms, their fragile petals resembling dancing butterflies as they catch in the breeze, but it is robust. The basal rosette sends out slim but tough leaves, the stems which look thin are wiry. Drought tolerant and highly attractive to pollinators, this perennial is a wonder.

The family of Gaura Lindheimeri gets its name from a German 19th-century botanist, Ferdinand Lindheimer, whose work in collecting plants for Harvard University was memorialised. He collected plants in Louisiana and Texas where the Gaura originates, giving insight into the hot, dry conditions it prefers.
