Garrya Elliptica James Roof
Garrya elliptica James Roof is a vigorous shrub that is ideally positioned against a fence or wall at the back of a border. Its attractive, leathery leaves create an evergreen foil for other plants, however in winter, it produces luxuriant tresses of catkin-like racemes (up to 20cm long) that resemble silvery-grey silk tassels. Recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.

Garrya is a native of the western states of North America. This variety is appropriately named after the remarkable 20th-century plantsman James Roof who was responsible for the renowned Regional Parks Botanic Garden in Berkeley, California.
Flowers: Catkin-like flowers on male plants from December to February.

This vigorous shrub needs little attention or pruning other than the removal of dead, damaged or diseased stems in spring following flowering.
