This is an extremely tough and robust plant, succeeding in all reasonable aspects. A tall plant with three-season interest, it is ideal for the back of a border. Interestingly, cotinus comes from the Greek for wild olive (kotinus). A recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.

- Cotinus coggygria are easy shrubs to look after. Royal Purple can become tall and woody, so prune back severely to induce dense growth.
