notes
The large flowers of Clematis Guernsey Cream open a lovely rich cream colour with pale yellow stamens and subtle green bars the length of the petals. The luxuriant but neutral colour of the flowers make this variety a lovely companion plant, climbing through and complementing other plants.
Insights

This rich, cream variety has a loyal following amongst gardeners. Large flowered clematis were introduced from the Orient in the 19th century, but Old Man’s Beard (Clematis vitalba) commonly seen in British hedgerows, is an indigenous relation.

Details

Flowers: Repeat flowering, the first flowers appear in May - July, then again in August if you deadhead the first flush

Planting
  • Moist, well drained
  • Container
  • Partial shade
  • North, east facing
  • Sheltered
Care
  • As Clematis like cool roots, try to position so that the roots will be shaded from the sun by another plant.
  • Bear in mind the space they will need to climb and provide a suitable structure - trellis, wall, fence or other plant - to climb through.
  • Minor pruning to tidy in early spring and after flowering. Group 2 for pruning.
