Very pretty with its mass of nodding flower heads, Clematis Alpina Willy has a whimsical appeal, best grown over a pergola or trained up a trellis. The flowers are pale pink and bell shaped, with a darker pink blush at the base, and are followed by fluffy seedheads.

The spring flowering clematis have a very fine root system so do not fare well in waterlogged ground, in fact, they thrive in poor soil conditions, if free draining. Do not over fertilise as this will encourage foliage growth, at the expense of flowers.
