notes

Offering instant elegance, this Areca Dypsis lutescens is an evergreen palm whose gracefully arching branches, with potential to reach the ceiling, send sweeps of luxuriant, evergreen foliage across an interior. The feathery leaflets of the pinnate leaves create a tropical atmosphere and being excellent air purifiers, they actively improve the quality of life.

Insights

Areca Palms are indigenous to the hydric forests of Madagascar. They are known as Golden Cane Palms because the stems producing the exotic foliage are a lovely warm gold colour. Panicles of small yellow flowers appear on mature palms in the summer and mature into inedible red seeds. It is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.

Care

This palm likes bright light but not direct sunlight. It likes a damp habitat so during the growing season keep the soil damp but never wet (to avoid root rot), do not water during the winter. Give it two or three liquid feeds in the growing season and mist the leaves regularly. Protect from draughts.
