notes

This is a sophisticated form of the indigenous Cow Parsley that is a harbinger of spring in the British countryside, overflowing from hedgerows or covering wild meadows. Being so close to the native form, Ravenswing is highly attractive to many forms of insects.

Insights

Unlike its green-leaved relation, the deeply cut foliage of this variety is a striking dark purple. The flowers rise to a good height above the plant, and it looks as if the purple of the dark stems has washed the delicate umbels of tiny white flowers a pale pink.

Care

Plant A. Ravenswing in the border to provide a lightness of touch amongst other herbaceous plants. Stake the young plant before it flowers and cut down in the autumn. Alternatively, use in a wild garden or meadow where it will proliferate if allowed to self-seed. In autumn cut down to ground level and mulch.
