A pre-loved first edition of Herman Melville's second book 'Omoo: Adventures in the South Seas', the narrative of which is based on Melville's own experiences of the Marquesas Islands in the southern Pacific Ocean. This London edition is considered to be the 'true' first edition, as it preceded the American publisher's print by one month. Of the 4000 copies printed, most were paperbound volumes, making the original clothbound editions particularly rare.
