The slim leaves of the highly ornamental perennial Pennisetum alopecuroides Red Head provide interest across the year turning from summer green, to gold in the autumn and buff in the winter. Meanwhile, the delightful bottlebrush flower heads of high summer create an almost smoky appearance, the red bristles having long, soft hairs.

P. Red Head will add softness and movement to your garden. It is excellent when planted in drifts, but has great impact as a specimen plant to provide an accent, or to make a statement in a container. It is also drought tolerant once established. - Cut back old stems to the ground between February and the end of March, before new growth resumes. These cuttings can be left on the ground as natural mulch or composted.
