Features

notes
Each large flower of Clematis Multi Blue opens to reveal a double-layered row of petals, the deep blue of which takes on a silvery appearance as it continues to flower. The mature foliage of this compact climber is a fresh mid-green colour, but new growth has a rich bronzy tint.
Insights

This variety is compact enough to be planted in containers, in courtyards or on terraces and will climb vine-like up trellises, pergolas or through trees. Large flowered clematis were introduced from the Orient in the 19th century, but Old Man’s Beard (Clematis vitalba) commonly seen in British hedgerows, is an indigenous relation.

Details

Flowers: From late spring to early autumn

Planting
  • Moist, well drained
  • Container
  • Full sun, partial shade
  • North, south, east, west facing

Care

As Clematis like cool roots, try to position so that the roots will be shaded from the sun by another plant. Bear in mind the space they will need to climb and provide a suitable structure - trellis, wall, fence or other plant - to climb through.
