notes

Sweeping majestically, 'The Windswept Wychwood' epitomises the illustrious nature of our Cotswold surroundings. A majority of Townsend’s work heralds the artist’s particular love of indigenous trees, using steel to recreate the romantic and unpredictable twists and bends of the branches.

Insights

Predominantly working with a wide range of steel and found objects, Townsend uses his atmosphere as his influence, “I am excited by the notion of creating a unique visual language with my work, describing and interpreting a journey through life and responses to stimuli, feelings and emotions.”

Artist

Since graduating from Liverpool University in 1996 with a first class combined honours degree in Fine Art and Psychology, Townsend has been working from his studio based in Ascott under Wychwood, Oxfordshire.
