Features

notes

A dwarf version of the sprawling Magnolia grandiflora, Little Gem is a small, evergreen tree bearing a mass of sweetly scented white flowers, which it produces even from a young age. With its compact size, it’s an ideal specimen for smaller gardens or a large pot, but it will require a position sheltered from cold winds. Leaves are glossy green, with a brown velvety backing, and the flowers are followed by large seedpods for extended interest.

Insights

Preferring a sunny spot, this is a low maintenance plant. Slow growing, it can be trained as an espalier against a wall or fence or grown as part of a hedge.
