notes

With its large deep purple flowers, marked with a cerise bar, this eye-catching Clematis Mrs N Thompson is a real show stopper in the garden. Named after the lady that discovered it, Nelly Thompson, this deciduous climber flowers in early summer and often will have another flush in September.

Insights

Clematis need their roots to be cool and their heads in the sun, so plant with roots shaded by other plants. Use Clematis ‘Mrs N Thompson’ to add bold colour to a plain background, such as a fence or wall.

Details

Planting
  • Moist, well drained soil
  • Full sun or partial shade
  • East, South, West-facing aspects

Care
  • Group 2 pruning
  • As Clematis like cool roots, try to position so that the roots will be shaded from the sun by another plant.
