Features

notes

Unusual and bewitchingly pretty, Nectaroscordum siculum provides architectural interest in a border when in flower and then later as a seed head. Rising above other perennials on a long, strong stem the umbels of the flower head comprise separate bell-shaped flowers which droop elegantly until mature when they rise up before forming a seed head.

Insights

The foliage of this allium is fairly nondescript, all eyes are on the flowers which, being nectar rich, also draw native native pollinators into the garden.

Details

Single stalks of pink, green and creamy coloured flowers will appear in May, the frosted seed heads look attractive if left throughout the winter

  • Well drained soil

Care

Minimum maintenance is required. If not used in arrangements, leave the flower heads on throughout the winter for interest and tidy up in the spring as the new leaves appear.
