How To: Create a Festive Foliage Swag
There is no better way to signal a Christmas welcome than the scent and sight of fresh pine and foliage greeting visitors from the moment they set eyes on your door. Wreaths have long been a traditional welcome, bedecked in feathers, decorations and seasonal berries, but for those short on time, or wanting a smaller and considered welcome, why not try your hand at creating a Festive Door Swag. With the arrival of our Foliage Bundles, we decided to get creative to create a fuss-free and relatively simple alternative, ready to welcome friends and family across the threshold.
- Festive Foliage Bundle
- Fresh Foliage Stems, Eucalyptus and Connifer branches work particularly well
- Garden Twine or Floristry Wire
- Decorative elements such as Pinecones, Dried Orange Slices and Berried stems
- Ribbon
Quantities required will depend on your desired size of swag, the more foliage you use, the larger your final bough will be. Try to pick contrasting colours of foliage, so the textures and layers stand out.
Place your base layer using your Foliage Bundle, layer other fresh foliage, picked from in store or foraged at home to create your desired shape. Once you have achieved this, tie together at the top of your stems with floristry wire or garden twine.
Add decorative elements for added Christmas cheer. Here we have strung pinecones with rich red velvet ribbon for a festive burst of colour and texture. Other alternatives could be battery powered lights, tree decorations, berries and more. Visit our wreath supply area in store for inspiration in abundance.
Cover any ribbon ties and floristry wire with a larger thicker ribbon, ready to tie in a large bow. Allow for a long length should you like a decadent floppy bow.
Hang on your door and enjoy for the rest of the season!
