Christmas in the Greenhouse
Every year, we as gardeners feel the movements of the seasons keenly. From our labours, we are rewarded with blossom filled springs, bountiful summers, all the way through to pared back, but structure filled winter gardens. A greenhouse is often at the heart of a seasonal garden, and so we could think of no better place for a Christmas gathering, celebrating the year gone by.
Neutral and natural linens are a perfect rustic base for festivities. For adorning the table runner, our mossy Helena pot candle holders offer a twist on a gardener’s staple. Learn how to make these naturally inspired centrepieces with our guide below.
How to: make mossy plant pot candle holders
Turn empty garden pots into a festive table display
Select a pot that has a wide enough drainage hole to securely hold your chosen candle. Turn the pot upside down, and position the base of the candle into the drainage hole. Cover the bottom of the pot and around the base of the candle with sustainably sourced moss, and embellish with additional botanical decorations if you wish.
A great way to add height to the scene is by using amaryllis stems. Being such tall and richly coloured flowers, a Christmas arrangement can be easily made by just placing a few in a tall vase.
Laying the table
Choosing your ceramics for such occasions is always an important decision. Our green and leafy ceramics from Portuguese ceramicists Bordallo Pinheiro provide a quirky and artistic nod to the garden, bringing a whole new meaning to field to plate.
The potager theme can be further carried through by some choice table decorations. Our allotment inspired Christmas ornaments double as pretty table favours, whilst adding a glint of festive gold.
Our Fir Forest has much to offer for fresh, green adornments. Real fir garlands are the perfect canvas for a botanical spray, whilst some sustainable foraging in the garden at this time of year can produce all manner of interesting seed heads and evergreen foliage for further embellishing.
